Best tools to track brand mentions in ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini (2026)
Ten AI brand mention trackers compared on public entry price and engine coverage, from Otterly.AI at $29 a month to Profound on custom quotes. Plus what any tracker has to record, and when a spreadsheet is still enough.

The main tools that track brand mentions in ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini listed public entry prices between $29 a month (Otterly.AI) and $125 (Searchable) in October 2026, with Profound sold on custom quotes. They all do the same base job: run a fixed set of buyer prompts every day and record whether your brand is named, where, how it is described and which sources the engine cites. What separates them is the number of engines you get at once, the volume of answers per dollar, and what the tool helps you do once the numbers are in. Vizible AI, which publishes this guide, sells one of these tools, so it is described in its own disclosed section after the others.
Why one ChatGPT answer tells you nothing
Ask ChatGPT the same brand recommendation question twice and you will usually get two different lists. When SparkToro and Gumshoe.ai ran about 3,000 prompts through 600 volunteers, the odds of getting the same list twice were under 1 in 100, and closer to 1 in 1,000 for the same list in the same order. Tracking brand mentions is a sampling job: the same prompts, run repeatedly, compared over time.
Answers also change with the person asking. ChatGPT can draw on saved memories and custom instructions, so a marketer testing from their own account sees answers shaped by their own history. OpenAI's Temporary Chat documentation states that a temporary chat uses no memory and no custom instructions, which makes it the closest thing to what a new buyer sees. Location and language move answers too, which is why ChatGPT visibility has to be read as a distribution rather than a single score.
What a brand mention tracker has to record
Any tracker, paid or a spreadsheet, should log five things per answer: whether your brand is named, its position, how it is described, which competitors appear and which URLs the engine cites. Across a full round of prompts, the first two give you your mention rate and your average position.
A brand mention in one AI answer is a data point. A mention rate across repeated runs, on fixed prompts, compared with competitors, is a metric.
The cited URLs are the most useful column. In Ahrefs' study of 75,000 brands, branded web mentions had the strongest correlation with visibility in Google AI Overviews (0.664), so the pages engines cite when competitors appear and you do not form your citation gap: the reviews, comparisons and articles to work on first.
The prompt set matters as much as the fields. Category prompts ("best payroll software for a 50-person company") and problem prompts should make up most of it, with no brand named. Branded prompts belong in a separate group because they inflate the score, as explained in branded vs non-branded AI Share of Voice. Twenty to fifty prompts are enough to start.
Why ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini have to be tracked separately
Each engine draws on different sources, so a good result on one says little about the others. Perplexity searches the web for every answer and leans on pages that already rank: in Ahrefs' analysis of 15,000 queries, 28.6% of Perplexity's cited URLs ranked in Google's top 10, against 12% on average across AI assistants and about 8% for ChatGPT's in-text citations.
Google adds two surfaces of its own. Google's documentation on AI features notes that AI Overviews and AI Mode may use different models and techniques, so the answers and links they show vary even for the same query. Engine coverage is therefore the first thing to check in any tool, and our comparison of how AI engines rank the same brands differently shows gaps wide enough to change a buyer's shortlist.

Where Vizible AI fits
Vizible AI publishes this guide and sells a tracker, so read this section as a vendor's own description. Vizible AI starts at $45 (€39) a month for 20 prompts on 3 engines at once, chosen among ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Copilot, Google AI Overviews and Google AI Mode, with 4 engines on Growth and 5 on Pro. AI crawler visits, AI traffic from Google Analytics and one prepared task a day are included from the entry plan.
It does not track Claude, Grok, DeepSeek or Mistral. Teams whose buyers rely on those engines should look at Promptwatch, Qwairy or Peec AI's Enterprise plan instead. Every head-to-head is listed on our comparison page.
Which tool fits which team
The features overlap heavily, so the choice usually comes down to budget and the engines your buyers actually use. Below $50 a month, Otterly.AI is the cheapest entry; Vizible AI costs $16 more and includes AI crawler visits and AI traffic, which Otterly.AI keeps for its $189 plan.
When volume comes first, SE Visible's 75 prompts for $89 and Searchable's 100 prompts for $125 give more answers per dollar than any other entry plan. Teams already paying for Semrush or Ahrefs can add AI tracking to an account they open every day, for an extra fee per domain or per tier.
If Claude matters to your buyers, the shortlist narrows to Promptwatch and Qwairy on every plan, Ahrefs on custom prompts, Otterly.AI and Searchable as paid add-ons, and the enterprise plans of Peec AI and Profound. Large brands with a procurement process usually end up comparing Profound with those enterprise plans.
Mentions, citations and traffic are three different signals
A mention means the engine named you. A citation means it linked one of your pages. Traffic means a buyer clicked. The three rarely move together: in Pew Research Center's analysis of 68,879 Google searches, users clicked a link inside an AI summary in just 1% of visits, so most brand exposure in AI answers never reaches analytics.
AI referral sessions in Google Analytics 4 are still worth watching, because being cited pays off where clicks remain: Seer Interactive found that brands cited in AI Overviews earned 35% more organic clicks than brands that were not. Treat traffic as the lagging signal and mentions as the leading one.
When a spreadsheet is still enough
Thirty prompts, three engines and five runs each make 450 answers per round, before adding Google AI Overviews, AI Mode or Copilot, and before reading each answer for position and framing. A spreadsheet works for a first baseline in a Temporary Chat. Past that, a tool earns its fee mainly by running the same prompts on a schedule and keeping the history, and the AI Share of Voice method turns the raw mentions into a share against competitors.
Whichever route you take, keep the prompt set frozen between rounds and add new prompts as a separate group. Changing the questions mid-series is the most common reason a mention rate appears to jump or collapse when nothing in the market has moved.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best tool to track brand mentions in ChatGPT?
There is no single best tool: the right one depends on budget and on the engines your buyers use. In October 2026, Otterly.AI had the lowest entry price at $29 a month, SE Visible the most prompts per dollar at 75 for $89, and Promptwatch and Qwairy the widest engine coverage, Claude included. Vizible AI starts at $45 a month with AI crawler visits and a daily prepared task included.
How much does an AI brand mention tracker cost?
Public entry prices for dedicated AI brand mention trackers ranged from $29 to $125 a month in October 2026. Semrush and SE Ranking charge $99 a month for their AI tools, and Ahrefs Brand Radar starts at €47 a month. Profound sells its Enterprise plan on custom quotes only.
Can I track brand mentions in ChatGPT for free?
Yes, for a small prompt set. Run 20 to 50 buyer prompts several times each in a ChatGPT Temporary Chat, which uses no memory or custom instructions, and log whether your brand appears, its position, its description and the cited sources. The method stops scaling quickly: 30 prompts on 3 engines with 5 runs each already make 450 answers per round.
Why do AI answers change every time I ask?
AI engines generate each answer anew, so the brands named and their order vary from one run to the next. A study by SparkToro and Gumshoe.ai found the odds of getting the same list of brands twice for the same question were under 1 in 100. Brand mentions therefore have to be tracked as a rate across many runs.
Which AI engines should I track for brand mentions?
Track ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity at a minimum, since each draws on different sources and ranks brands differently. Add Google AI Overviews and AI Mode if your buyers start on Google, and Copilot for Microsoft-heavy audiences. Claude, Grok and DeepSeek are only covered by some tools, often on higher plans or as add-ons.
